Painting in the Style of a famous artist
Objective: To use research skills to gather information about 2 artists and movements in art history. Students will use this information to choose favorite artist and paint an acrylic painting in the style of a famous artist. Students will incorporate technology; learn the historical significance of art from a specific time period. Students will recreate the artist’s imagery and style.
Materials:
Acrylic paint, 11x14 canvas or larger, brushes, palette, references.
Canvas Size: 11x14 or larger
Procedure:
Part 1- Include information about the movement or style of art.(Name, time period, major characteristics, historical significance, etc.)
Part 2- Include information about the specific chosen artist. (Background information, techniques used, style, brush strokes, etc.) Elaborate on this section.
Part 3- Describe two artworks by your chosen artist. Include images of artwork, title, date, and information. Describe in detail as if the reader has no visual reference at all but can visualize based on your description. Add images of paintings in your paper.
Part 4- Include a bibliography with one or more references. ***Remember to always use your own words when writing a paper. If you copy word for word from your sources, you know what will happen :).

- Research both artists that were given to you. Choose your favorite and compose a two-three page paper in 12pt. with a .75 margin, double spaced.
- Find inspirational photographs to recreate. The subject matter is open. Please discuss ideas with teacher.

- Find 2 photographs of your chosen subject that you have taken or from other sources. Draw a color rendition of your 2 images in the style of your chosen artist in your sketchbook. Write down key words form your research that describes the techniques, brush strokes, colors, etc. you will use in your painting.
- Get teacher approval and then lightly draw your photo on the canvas. Put down a tonal ground for your painting if necessary. Begin final painting in the style of your chosen artist.
