Who Am I? expressive? mechanical? zombie?
Drawing Project: Expressive, Mechanical or Zombie Self Portrait:
Concept: Students will draw a self-portrait that utilizes technical skills learned in class as well as being creative in their choices to portray themselves as expressive, mechanical or zombie. Students will be able to choose the media used for this project.
Goal: Develop 3 ideas, one idea for each of the above topics. This means you will have an idea for expressive, mechanical and zombie. You are to have clear references for each idea. You may NOT use the same photo for all three ideas. This is a time for you to be creative. You can be creative and technical at the same time.
Here are some guidelines you must follow:

Think about what you want to portray yourself as what do you want your viewers to know about you and why you chose to create this piece. How technical skills and composition enhance your idea? Have you included a wide range of values to show volume and depth? Try to think of all the ways you can make your portrait look like you.
Grading:
I will be looking for all the elements stated above. If you are missing a component it will be discussed and will have the opportunity to edit.

- You must have clear well planned sketches.
- Your composition must have some negative space and utilize space in an interesting way.
- Choose what media you would like to use. You may use any of the media we have worked with in class up to this point.
- No smaller than 12x18
- You must have an inspiration. That means you must have references for your ideas along with your photos of yourself. For example, if you are working on the mechanical one you should have pictures of mechanical things, tools, metal, etc. You are to have AT LEAST 5 references for each of the 3 ideas.
- Your drawing has to use value properly and have facial proportions in the correct place.
- Must show a likeness to you.
- You may choose what surface you are drawing on. Examples: wood, newspaper, fabric, cardboard, etc.
- Do not have distractions in the drawing. Backgrounds should be limited and you should only see from the shoulders up. You may incorporate hands.
- Be creative… Be realistic…push passed your boundaries.
